Mission

In order to fulfill our Malong Vision, the Malong team will work to create opportunities to strength the threads of Mental Health, Academic/Life Mentorship/Guidance, and Community Buiding. These opportunities will manifest itself in the following:

Malong Mind

Malong Mind’s mission is to provide skill building opportunities that are responsive and practical to each teacher’s process in healing and maintaining mental health, which teachers can also practice with their students. These trainings and workshops include reflective listening, stress management, mindfulness activities, and WRAP. Malong team will also provide feedback on teacher needs, which Malong Mind will facilitate workshops around.

Malong Body

Malong body will provide opportunities for fun with collaborative PEP event planning, ultimately promoting a sense of community through intersite building. Malong body will also focus on improving the essential bodily functions of the PEP teachers, which are imperative for survival. This will be implemented with stretches, breathing exercises, and physical workouts throughout the year. Malong Body will be responsible for teachers being more mindful about food preparation, food labor, and food consumption. Lastly, Malong Body will help to build the teachers’ self-love, as well as self-worth.

Malong Soul
Malong Soul will be providing regular check ins with teachers at a specific site. Malong coordinators will be responsible to check in with each teacher at least once during their duration at that site. For example, if Alvin is at Denman, he will check in with each and every teacher there at Denman until he rotates into another site.
Malong Soul will also work with their site director and site coordinators on planning and the facilitation on possible intervention(s) for their site.

The Malong team will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of site culture. For example, if there is a possibility for conflict between people (teacher/student), the Malong coordinators will work together on an intervention that would repair the conflict (use of restorative justice). Malong Soul will also teach restorative justice to teachers for use in their classrooms.
